Live Action Overview

Since its inception, Frantic Films' Live Action Division has developed a reputation for creating outstanding documentary and lifestyle programming for a global audience. In addition to its success on Canadian television and successful sales into the US market, Frantic's award-winning series, features and documentaries have been sold to more than 80 countries worldwide.

From the Gemini Award-winning lifestyle series Til Debt Do Us Part, to the highly-rated extreme science series Guinea Pig, Frantic continues to produce high-quality, innovative programs for a variety of networks in multiple genres. Frantic is currently in production on a dramatic pilot for Canada's Showcase Television and a documentary pilot for History Television.

CEO and Executive Producer Jamie Brown is the driving force behind Frantic's Live Action Division. Formerly of Sullivan Entertainment, Nelvana Limited and Credo Entertainment, Brown created, produced and executive produced the highest-rated documentary series ever broadcast on a Canadian specialty channel, Pioneer Quest: A Year in the Real West.

Brown brought both that successful formula and Producer Lynne Skromeda to Frantic and the company's first living-history venture, Quest for the Bay, became the highest-rated series on History Television in 2002, and was the first Canadian-made living-history program to air in the US. Subsequent historical productions include Klondike: The Quest for Gold, Quest for the Sea, Bomber Boys: The Fighting Lancaster and Devil's Brigade.

Frantic's Live Action work extends to other genres such as the CTV movie-of-the-week Zeyda and the Hitman, lifestyle series Last Chance for Romance (Global Television) and Kitchen Crimes (Food Network Canada/HGTV US) and documentary programming Almost Legal (Life Network Canada) and Breakbound (Outdoor Life Network Canada), and award-winning documentary Music Rising (CTV). In 2005, Frantic produced the feature film, Lucid, which opened at the Toronto Film Festival that year and won an audience-favourite award at the Vancouver Film Festival.

Frantic currently has a number of projects in funded development with Canada's top networks and specialty channels and is developing more new programming in a variety of formats. The company is also expanding into new areas such as dramatic series, continuing Frantic's commitment to innovation and excellence in live action production.
