Biography – Jamie Brown, CEO and Executive Producer
In his first year as CEO, Jamie and the team at Frantic saw profits more than triple and that unprecedented period of growth continues to this day. Frantic is consistently ranked as one of the fastest growing Canadian businesses and has been named one of Canada's "Hottest Startups" by Profit Magazine, and was a two-time finalist for the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award. Brown continues to oversee strategic growth, maintain key business relationships and develop new business opportunities.
An award-winning producer, Jamie is the driving force behind Frantic's Live Action Division. He is the creator, producer and executive producer of many successful and award-winning projects for television and film. His living-history programs – such as the Quest series, have been both critically acclaimed and set numerous ratings records. His more than 80 hours of production include TV movies (Zeyda and the Hitman, starring Danny Aiello and Judd Hirsch), feature films (Lucid, which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival and won at the Vancouver Film Festival), hit lifestyle programs (Til Debt Do Us Part, winner of the 2006 Gemini for Best Lifestyle Series) and documentaries (Devil's Brigade).
After starting his career as a corporate finance and entertainment lawyer for a prominent Toronto law firm, Brown joined Sullivan Entertainment as Director of Business and Legal Affairs and worked on two seasons of the TV series Wind At My Back (CBC/Disney), the MOW Promise The Moon (CBC/Hallmark) and the top-rated mini-series Seasons of Love (CBS/CTV). Brown later joined the Business and Legal Affairs team at Nelvana Limited, where he was involved with programs such as Babar, King of the Elephants (CBC/Disney Channel/HBO), George and Martha (HBO/YTV), Little Bear (Nickelodeon/CBC) and Bob and Margaret (Global/Comedy Central/BBC). Returning to Winnipeg, Brown began his producing career at Credo Entertainment where he created the first Quest series, Pioneer Quest: A Year in the Real West before moving to Frantic Films
In recognition of his groundbreaking work, Brown was the first recipient of the Lions Gate Innovative Producer Award. He is also one of Canada's Top 40 Under 40, received the I.H. Asper Broadcast Entrepreneur of the Future Award and was nominated as the New Media Visionary at the Canadian New Media Awards. Currently, he is the Chair of Canada's National Screen Institute and is on the board and executive of the Canadian Film and Television Producers' Association. Brown also sits on the Manitoba Premier's Economic Advisory Council and is a member of the Law Society of Upper Canada.
