The Slaves List
This list shows all the slaves that are included in your Deadline render farm. It also displays useful information about each slave such as it's machine name, user, status, current job, etc, as well some useful memory and CPU information. You can customize what info is displayed by right-clicking on the column headers and using drag & drop to change their order. You can also use the search box or to limit which slaves are displayed.

You can remote into a slave by double-clicking on it. You can also access many options for a slave, which are listed below, by right-clicking on it. Note that the availability of these options can vary depending on the context in which they are used.
Refresh Slave
Refreshes the selected slave.
Refresh All Slaves
Refreshes the slave list.
Connect by VNC
Connect to a remote machine via VNC. If the VNC encrypted password is not stored in the Repository settings, you will be prompted for the password. Click here for information on configuring VNC in Deadline. This option is available if the VNC Repository settings allow for remote connections.
Connect by Remote Desktop
Connect to a remote machine via Remote Desktop. Simply enter your user name and password and click Connect. Click here for information on configuring RDC in Deadline. This option is only available if the Remote Desktop settings allow for remote connections.
Connect by Remote Administrator
Connect to a remote machine via Remote Administrator. Click here for information on configuring Radmin in Deadline. This option is only available if the Remote Administrator settings allow for remote connections.
Send Net Message
Net Send a message to a remote machine.
Find Task In Task List
Selects the task in the task list that this slave is currently rendering. This option is only available if the slave is currently rendering a task.
Remote Control
Allows you to control a slave remotely. It provides the following options:
- Force the Slave application to search for a job immediately if it sitting idle.
- Start/Stop/Restart the Deadline Slave application.
- Start/Restart/Shutdown the remote machine the Deadline Client is running on. Note that starting a remote machine requires that WakeOnLan be setup properly.
- Stop/Restart the Deadline Slave application after it finishes its last task.
- Shutdown/Restart the machine after the Dealine Slave finishes its last task.
- Execute a command on the remote machine. To execute a DOS command, the command must be preceded with "cmd /C", which opens the DOS prompt, executes the command, and closes the prompt. For example:
cmd /C echo "foo" > c:\test.txt
This option is available if you are in super user mode.
Scripts
You can also add your own slave scripts to the Scripts menu. See the Monitor Scripting documentation for more information.
Modify Slave Settings
Allows you to change some settings for the slave.
The settings you can change are:
- Slave Description: The description of the slave. This can be used to provide some brief details about the slave, such as certain System information.
- Slave Comment: A short comment regarding the slave. This can be used to inform other users why this slave has been assigned to a different repository path, why it's excluded from a certain pool, etc.
- Normalized Render Time Multiplier: This value is used to determine the normalized render time of tasks. For example, a slave that takes twice as long to render a task should have a multiplier of 2.
- Normalized Task Timeout Multiplier: This value is used to determine the normalized render time of task timeouts. For example, a slave that takes twice as long to render a task should have a multiplier of 2.
- Concurrent Task Limit Override: The concurrent task limit for the slave. If 0, the slave's CPU count is used as the limit.
This option is available if you are in super user mode.
Modify Pools
Allows you to add slaves to certain pools, or exclude slaves from certain pools. More information on using pools and how they affect job scheduling can be found here. This option is available if you are in super user mode.
View History
Allows you to view the entire history of a slave. This includes when the slave was launched, when the slave was VNC'ed into, etc. This option is available if you are in super user mode.
Enabled/Disabled
Allows you to enable or disable a slave. The Deadline Slave application will not start up on slaves that are disabled. Instead, the following timed message box will be displayed. This option is available if you are in super user mode.
Mark Slave As Offline
Allows you to mark a stalled slave as being offline. This is useful is a slave didn't close cleanly when it was last shutdown, and you don't plan on restarting it for a while. This option is available if the slave is stalled and you are in super user mode.
Delete Slave
Allows you to delete a slave from your Deadline render farm. Deleting a slave from the Monitor does not uninstall the Deadline Client applications on the slave, it simply removes Deadline's knowledge of that slave's existence. To add the slave back again, simply start the Slave application on that machine. This option is available if you are in super user mode.
View Errors
Allows you to view the errors for a slave. This option is available if the slave has reported any errors.
Clear Errors
Allows you to remove all the errors for a slave. This option is available if the slave has reported any errors. This option is available if you are in super user mode.
